PrestaShop themes are referenced via /themes/{theme-name}/assets/ paths and the var prestashop JavaScript object. Our detector extracts the theme name from these signatures in under two seconds. How to use the prestashop theme detector

What is a PrestaShop theme?

PrestaShop is an open-source eCommerce platform popular in Europe, particularly France, Spain, Italy, and Poland — running over 300,000 active online stores worldwide. PrestaShop themes control the storefront design: homepage layout, product card styling, cart flow, and checkout. The default PrestaShop theme is 'Classic'; most merchants use either Classic (free, ships with PrestaShop) or one of the premium themes from PrestaShop Addons (the official marketplace) or third-party theme shops. Custom themes are common for larger stores. RevealTheme's PrestaShop detector identifies the theme by parsing /themes/{name}/assets/ asset paths in the HTML — every PrestaShop theme follows this convention regardless of which version of PrestaShop is running. The detector works on PrestaShop 1.7 (the most-deployed version through 2024) and PrestaShop 8.x (released 2022, gradually replacing 1.7).

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on PrestaShop 1.6?

Partial. PrestaShop 1.6 reached end-of-life in November 2018, so most stores have migrated to 1.7 or 8.x. The 1.6 theme directory structure is detected via fallback signatures.

Why does it show 'classic' on some stores?

Classic is the free default theme that ships with PrestaShop. Many small stores use it with minor customizations — the underlying theme is still Classic.

Can it tell me if the theme is from PrestaShop Addons or third-party?

Indirectly. Theme names matching PrestaShop's official Addons catalog (Warehouse, Transformer, Hummingbird, etc.) are PrestaShop Addons themes; other names typically come from third-party theme shops or are custom builds.

Does it work on PrestaShop stores in non-English languages?

Yes. The theme detection works on the HTML structure, not the language — so PrestaShop stores in French, Spanish, German, Polish, Italian, and any other language are detected identically.

Is PrestaShop 8 detectable?

Yes. PrestaShop 8.x uses the same /themes/{name}/assets/ structure as PrestaShop 1.7, so detection works identically on both major versions.
