Every CMS leaves fingerprints in the HTML and HTTP response: meta generator tags, predictable URL patterns (/wp-content/, /sites/default/), specific cookies, JavaScript globals, and theme file paths. Our detectors don't guess — they cross-reference these signals against curated patterns we maintain for the top 10 CMSes. The result is high-confidence identification, usually in under 2 seconds.
Why detect a competitor's stack?
Three legitimate use cases. (1) Competitive research: which CMS, theme, and plugins is the leader in your space using? Reverse-engineer their tech choices. (2) Lead qualification: if you sell to WordPress users, the detector instantly tells you whether a prospect's site qualifies. (3) Migration planning: before quoting a redesign, knowing the current stack tells you what data you'll need to extract and where the gotchas will be.
Detection isn't 100% — here's why
Sites can hide their CMS via headless rendering (Next.js + WordPress backend), aggressive caching that strips fingerprints, or custom themes that don't include the framework's default markers. We flag low-confidence detections and offer the next two most likely candidates. For high-stakes determinations (legal, contractual), always verify by other means (asking the site owner, checking the privacy policy, or running an in-depth audit).
