The RevealTheme Magento detector identifies the active theme on any Magento or Adobe Commerce storefront. Magento themes follow a vendor/theme namespacing convention (e.g., Magento/luma, Vendor/CustomTheme) and reference theme files through predictable URL patterns like /static/version*/frontend/Vendor/Theme/. Our detector extracts these patterns from the page HTML to return the vendor and theme name. Works on Magento 2.x storefronts, Adobe Commerce, and Magento Open Source.
Magento (now branded as Adobe Commerce for the paid version) is an open-source eCommerce platform aimed at mid-market and enterprise stores. Magento themes are different from themes on consumer-grade platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce — they follow a strict 'Vendor_Module' namespacing convention designed for inheritance and customization. A Magento theme like 'Magento/luma' means 'theme named luma published by the Magento vendor'. Custom agency themes follow patterns like 'AgencyName/StoreName'. Magento themes are typically heavily customized per-store because Magento is designed for businesses with specific commerce requirements — out-of-the-box themes are rarely deployed without modifications. The RevealTheme Magento detector identifies the base theme, which gives you a starting point for understanding the store's tech stack.
Magento 2 is fully supported. Magento 1 detection is partial because Magento 1 uses a different theme path structure (skin/frontend/{package}/{theme}/) which is also detectable, but Magento 1 reached end-of-life in June 2020 so most stores have migrated.
Adobe Commerce is the paid, hosted version of Magento (formerly Magento Enterprise / Magento Commerce Cloud). Both use the same theme architecture, so our detector works identically on both. We don't distinguish between the two versions in the results.
Some heavily customized Magento stores rewrite asset URLs through CDN aliases that hide the theme path. We catch most of these via fallback signatures (Magento_ module references, mage-cookies cookie), but a small percentage of obfuscated stores aren't detectable.
Sometimes. Magento 2's static asset paths include a version hash that occasionally reveals the major version (2.3, 2.4, etc.), but Magento intentionally rotates these hashes so reliable version detection isn't always possible.
We return both. The 'Vendor' tells you who published the theme (Magento for first-party themes, agency name for custom themes).
