WordPress includes a Site Health tool (Tools menu) that runs diagnostic checks. The checks identify common issues; many sites have findings that warrant action.
PHP version. Older PHP versions get flagged; current versions don't.
Object cache. Persistent object cache is recommended for performance; missing it produces a notice.
Background updates. Whether the site can auto-update.
Plugin and theme updates available. Outdated software flagged.
HTTPS status. Non-HTTPS sites get flagged.
File editing. Whether file editing through admin is enabled (security recommendation is to disable).
The tool provides specific recommendations. Each check has a description and suggested fix.
Most recommendations are mechanical to implement.
Site Health is a free diagnostic that most operators don't use. The findings often reveal actionable issues.
For sites that haven't reviewed Site Health, the audit is worth doing. The improvements typically take 1-2 hours total.
